Who am I anyway?!
I’m Eric Scott Fisher, a filmmaker, animator, and illustrator from the Chicagoland area, driven by a passion for telling stories that are just a bit off the beaten path. My work blends the classic with the cutting-edge—hand-drawn and hand-painted cels, 16mm and 8mm film, all mixed with the digital magic of modern tools.
I call my approach “patchwork filmmaking”—an experimental fusion of techniques, from traditional to digital, all brought together to create something dynamic and full of life. Whether it's through motion, color, or storytelling, I aim to engage and surprise the audience.
My films have been featured in and won awards at numerous film festivals, and my work has been displayed in art gallery settings. For over 20 years, I’ve freelanced in animation, illustration, and filmmaking, crafting everything from experimental films to short documentaries about artists. My illustrations have appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, and I’ve contributed to children’s educational books for publishers like Abdo and McGraw-Hill.
Exhibition!
I’ve even taken my art to the streets by displaying animations and sculptures as public art installations, like my films that screen on the side of the Norton Building in Lockport, Illinois that houses the Illinois Art Museum. My work is available for exhibition in galleries, libraries, children’s museums, and special events.
My children’s televsion show, The Ready Set Go Picture Show , is also available for libraries and children’s museums. The Ready Set Go Picture Show: On The Road is a presentation that includes a full screening of the pilot episode, along with props and artwork from the show on display. I also give a formal but fun talk, answering questions and sharing behind-the-scenes insights about the creative process.
If you’re looking for a speaker or want to showcase an art installation or exhibition, I’m available for hire. Let’s make something exciting happen!
ARTIST STATEMENT!
I tell stories with moving pictures. Happy, sad, serious, silly, factual, fictional, funny, tragic, deep, thoughtful, zany, vulgar, horrific, lovely....
...it's fun to pursue ideas without prejudice.Filmmaking in all forms just fills me with so much joy, as spectator and as one attempting to make it.
My films are made by using a mix of traditional and digital tools, often starting out as pencil on paper or colored cels shot underneath a variety of cameras. I juxtapose fast moving images and shapes, allowing the film to have a freedom of expression and feeling. I love letting the images flit and flicker and bounce across the screen, unrestrained and full of exuberance. There’s something wonderfully alive about that process.
For me, film and animation are about time—movement stretching through time—and I use that motion to create, connect, and tell stories that tap into raw, kinetic emotions. I want my audience to not just see the color and movement, but to feel it, like they’ve stepped into a world where anything can happen.
Flights of Fancy!
From paper to pixels, every frame is an adventure, a chance to capture something magical and let it come to life. It’s all part of the journey—exploring, discovering, and letting the imagination run wild. I want people to feel like they’ve stepped into a world where the magic is a little messy and the surprises are real.
Every film is an exploration, a bit of magic brought to life. The process is gritty, unpredictable, and full of discovery.
